Vuelta a España 1998
The 53rd Vuelta a España was held in 22 sections and 3774 kilometers from September 6th to 27th, 1998 and won by the Spaniard Abraham Olano . Adriano Baffi won the points classification , José María Jiménez the mountains classification , Giancarlo Raimondi the Meta Volantes classification and Banesto the team classification .
This race was Lance Armstrong's first big tour since he got cancer. Surprisingly for many experts, he finished fourth. He had previously been known more as a one-day racing specialist . His result, like all his results after August 1st, 1998, was revoked on October 22nd, 2012 because of a doping disqualification by the UCI, the World Cycling Federation . The placement was not reassigned after a decision on October 26, 2012.
