Biescas is the main town and administrative seat of the municipality of the same name (Municipio) in the province of Huesca in the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain . The place is on the banks of the Gállego and forms the entrance to the Valle de Tena . Biescas belongs to the Comarca Alto Gállego . The entire municipality of Biescas had 1589 inhabitants in 2012. The place Biescas is located in the Pyrenees at an altitude of 860 meters . On August 7, 1996, a devastating accident occurred as a result of heavy rainfall when a mudslide killed 87 people at the village's campsite .

The place traditionally lives from agriculture , especially from pasture farming. In the 20th century it developed into a tourist center that is visited both in winter and in summer.
