Albelda is a municipality in the province of Huesca in the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the Comarca La Litera in the predominantly Catalan-speaking Franja de Aragón . The area is formed by gypsum formations.
history
Various Iberian remains have been found in Albelda. The name of the community goes back to the Arabic al-balda (البلدة) (country town). After the Reconquista , the rule between the dioceses of Lleida and Barbastro was disputed. In the 13th and 14th centuries Albelda was the seat of a rule of the Counts of Urgell and later the Peralta. In 1629, under Philip IV, it was elevated to the status of a country town (villa).
