La Litera ( Catalan. La Llitera ) is a comarca ( administrative unit ) of the autonomous region of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the southeast of the province of Huesca and has an area of ​​733.9 km² 19,135 inhabitants (2013). That corresponds to 26.07 inhabitants per square kilometer. Capitals are Binéfar and Tamarite de Litera , the largest of the associated municipalities (Municipios).

The comarca borders in the west on the comarca Cinca Medio , in the northwest on the Somontano de Barbastro , in the north on the Ribagorza , in the east on the province of Lleida in Catalonia (comarcas Noguera and Segrià ) and in the south on the comarca Bajo Cinca .

The name is derived from the Latin lectuaria .

In addition to Tamarite de Litera and Binéfar, the municipalities of Albelda , Alcampell , Altorricón , Azanuy-Alins , Baélls , Baldellou , Camporrells , Castillonroy , Esplús , Peralta de Calasanz , San Esteban de Litera , and Vencillón belong to the comarca.

La Litera belongs partly to La Franja , the part of Aragon with Catalan-speaking inhabitants, which also forms the eastern border of the Catalan-speaking area.
