San Esteban de Litera ( Catalan Sant Esteve de Llitera ) is a municipality in the province of Huesca in the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the Comarca La Litera in the predominantly Catalan-speaking Franja de Aragón in the area of the Río Cinca and the Río Sosa. Linguistically, the municipality belongs to the transition area from Catalan to Aragonese .

history
The municipality, which was recaptured from Moorish ownership for a short time in 1064, finally came under Aragonese rule after several changes of rule between 1143 and 1149. It is located in the extreme south of the historic Ribagorza county . In 1648 the place was badly affected by the plague.
