Ontiñena is a municipality in the province of Huesca in the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain . It is located in the Comarca Bajo Cinca on the right bank of the Río Alcanadre and at the foot of the Sierra de Ontiñena.

history

The place was given to the monastery of Sigena in 1194 by King Alfonso II of Aragon .

Ontiñena was the planned construction site of the controversial major project announced in 2007 for the construction of the gigantic amusement and casino park Gran Scala with a planned investment of 17 billion euros, which was supported by the government of the Autonomous Region of Aragón and should be implemented from 2009. In 2010, however, there were clear doubts about the consortium's seriousness. The project finally failed in February 2012 when the investors did not realize their purchase options as contractually agreed and thus let the final deadline for acquiring the project land pass. The plots went back to their old owners.
