history
Rich archaeological finds in the vicinity of the village suggest a very early settlement, but the place can only be proven in documents for the 10th century (as Villanoua or Villanova ). Presumably there was a resettlement at this time, which also explains the name ( something like Neuweiler ).
Attractions
From the Aragón Bridge up the valley there is a piece of the Roman road that led to the Somport Pyrenees crossing and is now used by pilgrims to St. James .
On the east bank of the river is the Church of San Esteban with a valuable Romanesque sculpture of the Virgin Mary and a polychrome statue of St. James as a pilgrim.
Further in the direction of Jaca, the church of San Vicente lies off the road in the deserted town of Aruex . It was built in the 11th century in Romanesque style and restored in the late 1990s.
