Candanchú is a district of the municipality of Aísa in Aragon in the western Pyrenees .
history
It was founded in 1928 as the first ski station in Spain on a wasteland called Camp d'Anjou below the Somport Pass and near the ruins of the pilgrims 'hospice' Santa Cristina. For a long time there was only the border fortress Castillo de Candanchú , which, on the other side of the valley, was built to collect tolls and road fees from traders and merchants and to protect pilgrims.
The first ski courses in Spain were held in Candanchú from 1928, today there are slopes with a total length of 74.8 km (39.8 km of downhill slopes for all levels of difficulty and 35 km of cross-country skiing trails) and a lift capacity of 21,300 skiers per hour. The difference in altitude between the valley station ( 1530 msnm ) and the mountain station ( 2400 msnm ) is 870 m, the ski pass is offered together with the neighboring Astún ski area . Most of the cross-country skiing slopes are located on French territory, there is an access on the Spanish side directly from Candanchú and another on the French side at the top of the Somport pass.
Candachú is very well equipped with tourist infrastructure.
