The Comarca Noguera is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of ​​1,784.1 km² and 38,770 inhabitants (2019). In terms of area, Noguera is the largest comarca in Catalonia.

The association of municipalities is located in western Catalonia, northeast of the provincial capital Lleida . It borders in the north on the Comarca Pallars Jussà , in the east on Alt Urgell , Solsonès and Segarra , in the south on Urgell and Pla d'Urgell , in the south-west on Segrià and in the north-west on the Autonomous Community of Aragon . Together with the comarcas Garrigues , Pla d'Urgell, Segarra, Segrià and Urgell, the region forms the Ponent territory .

The comarca forms 2 parts, the upper Noguera in the north and the lower Noguera in the south. The upper Noguera lies in the Serra del Montsec mountain range , which is in front of the Pyrenees . The lower Noguera lies in the plain la Plana , this is in the northeastern part of the Catalan depression. The middle reaches of the Segre river flows through the upper Noguera, from west to east, to the center of the region. There the river changes direction and flows in a south-westerly direction through the lower Noguera. The two tributaries of the Segre, the Noguera Ribagorzana and the Noguera Pallaresa, are dammed in several dams in the upper Noguera. The Noguera Ribagorzana forms the western border of the comarca.

economy

Agriculture and animal husbandry is an important source of income in the region. Grains, animal feed, fruits, vegetables, almonds and olives are grown on the fertile plain. Sheep and pig breeding, but also cattle and poultry breeding, are important. Companies in the construction, textile, metal and paper industries as well as the food and wood processing industries have settled in Noguera.
