The Comarca Alt Penedès is in the province of Barcelona in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). Alt Penedès was created in 1936 when the historic Penedès region was divided. The community association has an area of ​​593.06 km² and 108,411 inhabitants (2019).

location

The association of municipalities is located in the middle of the southern part of Catalonia, it borders in the north on the Comarca Anoia , in the east on Baix Llobregat , in the south on Garraf and in the east on Baix Penedès and Alt Camp . Together with the comarcas Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès , Garraf, Maresme , Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental , the region forms the territory of Àmbit Metropolità de Barcelona .

Alt Penedès lies in a depression off the coast of the Mediterranean , the plain of the Penedès , through which the rivers Anoia and Foix flow . The fertile plain of the Penedès is an important wine-growing region. In the cavas of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia , over 90% of the sparkling wine in Spain is produced.
