El Pla de Penedès is a municipality in the province of Barcelona in the district (comarca) Alt Penedès . In 2019 the municipality had 1256 inhabitants on an area of 9.49 km² and is located at an altitude of 216 meters. Administratively, the settlements Bonavista, Cal Janes, Les Parellades, El Pla del Penedès, El Pujolet and Les Tarumbes belong to it.
Culture
The Church of Santa Maria is a Romanesque building and was first mentioned in 1080. It consists of a main nave and a transept and has an apse and a tower. The church was structurally altered twice, in the 16th and 19th centuries.
Pla de Penedès celebrates its annual folk festival on the last Saturday in July. During the carnival , the Festa de les Torrades ('Toast Bread Festival ') takes place on Sunday . In addition, the participants get one or more slices of bread and grill or toast them together with a sardine or a herring. Then there is a masked ball.
economy
The main source of income is agriculture, especially dry farming . Mainly wine, grain and olives are grown. Various companies are dedicated to the production of cava . Less than ten percent of the working population works in agriculture in the village. The majority work in industry and in service companies in the area.
