The Comarca Pallars Jussà is located in the province of Lleida in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of ​​1,343.1 km² and 13,080 inhabitants (2019). Together with the Comarca Pallars Sobirà it forms the historical Comarca Pallars.

The association of municipalities is located in the northern part of Catalonia, north of the provincial capital Lleida . It borders in the north on the comarca Alta Ribagorça and Pallars Sobirà in the east on Alt Urgell , in the south on Noguera , in the west on the comarca Ribagorza of the Autonomous Community of Aragon . Together with the comarcas Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya , Pallars Sobirà and Vall d'Aran , the community association forms the territory of Alt Pirineu i Aran .

The Pallars Jussà is located in the Pyrenees . The high mountain landscape, with peaks of over 2,900 m, occupies the entire north of the region. In the east lies the Serra de Boumort mountain range , in the south the Montsec de Rúbies and the Montsec d'Ares . In this mountainous landscape, the valleys of the rivers Noguera Pallaresa , Noguera Ribagorzana , Flamisell face north-south. In the center of the region is the Tremp Basin ( cat. Conca de Tremp ). After the confluence of the Noguera Pallaresa and the Flamisell, the river is dammed up in 2 dams, the Pantá de Talarn and Pantá de Terradets . In the west, the Noguera Ribagorzana river with the Pantá de Escales dam forms a natural border with the Autonomous Community of Aragon . The river Riu Rialb has its source in the far east

economy

The economy of the comarca is mainly characterized by agriculture and livestock. Grain, potatoes and animal feed are grown, and fruit, almonds, olives and wine are grown in the Tramp basin. Cattle are kept in the higher elevations and sheep are kept in the basin by Tramp. The local industry processes their products. Tourism is becoming increasingly important.
