The Comarca Alt Urgell is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ) and forms the heartland of the former county of Urgell . The community association has an area of 1,446.53 km² and 20,177 inhabitants (2019).

The association of municipalities is located in the northern part of Catalonia, it borders the comarcas Cerdanya and Berguedà in the east, Solsonès in the south-east , Noguera , Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà in the west and the Principality of Andorra in the north . Together with the Comarcas Alta Ribagorça , Val d'Aran , Cerdanya, Pallars Jussà, pallars sobirà forming region territory Alt Pirineu i Aran .
The whole area of Alt Urgell lies in the high mountain region of the Pyrenees . The Rio Segre flows through the comarca from northeast to southwest and feeds the Oliana reservoir. At the confluence of the Segre and Valira rivers , in the region's largest valley, lies the capital, La Seu d'Urgell. There are two ski areas in Sant Joan de l'Erm and in Tuixent - la Vansa .
