The Comarca Pallars Sobirà is located in the province of Lleida of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of 1,377.9 km² and 6932 inhabitants (2019). Together with the Comarca Pallars Jussà it forms the historical Comarca Pallars.

The association of municipalities is located in the northern part of Catalonia, north of the provincial capital Lleida . It borders in the north on the Republic of France ( Département Ariège ), in the northeast on the Principality of Andorra , in the east on the Alt Urgell , in the south on Pallars Jussà , in the west on Alta Ribagorça and Val d'Aran . Together with the comarcas Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya , Pallars Jussà and Vall d'Aran, the community association forms the territory of Alt Pirineu i Aran .
Pallars Sobirà is located in the high mountain region of the Pyrenees . The terrain is very mountainous and difficult to access. The highest peaks are the peaks of Pic de Sotllo (3,084 m), Pic de Canalbona (2,945 m), Pic de Barborte (2,938 m) and the highest point in Catalonia, the Pica d'Estats (3,143 m). The upper reaches of the Noguera Pallaresa river crosses the comarca in a north-south axis. The rivers Noguera de Cardós and Noguera Vallferrera have their source in the northeastern area of the comarca and flow into the Noguera Pallaresa near the municipality of Llavorsí . The majority of the inhabitants of the community association settle in the valleys of these three rivers. In the comarca are the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and the Alt Pirineu Nature Reserve .

The comarca has a rich pre-Romanesque and Romanesque heritage.
There are six designated ski areas in Pallars Sobirà.

economy
The most important source of income is tourism. But forestry, agriculture and livestock farming still have an, albeit diminishing, importance.
