Sort is the capital of the Comarca Pallars Sobirà in the autonomous community of Catalonia , Spain .

Sort is 692 meters above sea level on the Noguera Pallaresa River , a tributary of the Segre . The population is 2149 (as of January 1, 2019).

Since Sort means luck in Catalan , the place attracts a large number of tourists from all over Spain who want to buy tickets for the annual Christmas lottery for themselves and friends. In fact, there are above-average winners among the lots sold in Sort. Within ten years, tickets for the main prize were sold five times, most recently in 2004. However, this is more due to the exceptionally high sales figures there.

museum

The museum "El Camí de la llibertat" (The Way of Freedom), housed in an old prison, has been dedicated since July 2007 to the memory of the many hundreds of people who came through Sort on their escape from the National Socialists during the Second World War .
