The Ute Pass is a mountain pass located at 2800 m above sea level in the Front Range , a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains .
The pass is named after the Ute Indian tribe who used the pass as a transition to the prairies east of the mountains. In 1887 the construction of the Colorado Midland Railroad reached the pass; in the immediate vicinity of the top of the pass, the city of Divide grew in the following years . The railway line was shut down in 1918. The road over the pass has been part of US Highway 24 since 1926 and is now a four-lane highway.
