Tremp is a Catalan city in the province of Lleida in northeastern Spain . It is the capital of the Comarca Pallars Jussà .
Geographical location
The city is located about 65 kilometers north of Lleida on the Noguera Pallaresa River .
history
Tremp developed around the Santa Maria Abbey from the 9th century. In 1884 Tremp received city rights. After the incorporation of the formerly independent towns Sapeira (1970), Espluga de Serra (1970), Gurp de la Conca (1970), Fígols de la Conca (1970), Vilamitjana (1972), Palau (1972) and Suterranya (1973) is Tremp today with 304 km² the municipality with the largest area in Catalonia.
The city's patron saint is Santa Maria de Valldeflors, shown in the coat of arms.
