Church and river Sorgue

Saint-Affrique is a French commune with 8089 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the south of the Aveyron department .

geography

The village is located in the valley of the Sorgue River on the edge of the Causse du Larzac plateau . Saint-Affrique is located between Millau and Albi , 15 kilometers from Roquefort-sur-Soulzon , the place of origin of the Roquefort blue cheese . The municipality is part of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park .

history

The city got its name from the holy Affrique who supposedly died here in the 6th century. His sarcophagus is in the parish church from the 19th century.
