The population decline in the 20th century is largely due to the loss of jobs as a result of the mechanization of agriculture .

economy

For a long time, the place Pousthomy served the - in the meantime almost completely disappeared - exclusively agriculturally oriented and self- sufficient hamlets ( hameaux ) and individual farmsteads in the area as a craft, trade and service center. There were also many fruit trees in the region, the fruits of which could be sold in the Albi and Castres markets . Since the middle of the 20th century tourism has played a not insignificant role for the economic life of the place in the form of the rental of holiday apartments ( gîtes ).

history

The history of the place is largely in the dark. Two statue menhirs discovered in 1861 bear witness to human activities (hunting, semi-nomadism, etc.) in the Neolithic .

In the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) Pousthomy was in the possession of the English for several years. Probably only after that the place was surrounded by a circular wall with only one gate.

Attractions

  • Two statuary menhirs , carved on all sides, were discovered in the municipality in 1861 , which today can only be seen in copies. The originals are in the Musée Fenaille in Rodez .
  • The parish church of Saint-Amans still has Gothic echoes ; After being damaged in the Hundred Years War, it was restored in the 17th century and thoroughly redesigned in the 19th century. The inconspicuous entrance portal is located in the southwest corner.
  • A fountain ( fontaine ) from the 15th century is on the outskirts. It was recognized as a Monument historique in 1983 .
