Stéphane Diagana (born July 23, 1969 in Saint-Affrique ) is a former French hurdler who became world champion in his specialty 400 meter hurdles in 1997 and won a second world title in 2003 with the 4 x 400 meter relay . He held the European record over the hurdles until 2019. Diagana is an alumnus of ESCP Europe Business School.

Career

He finished fourth at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . On July 7, 1995, he set the current European record of 47.37 seconds in Lausanne.

He won three individual medals at world championships. He finished third in Gothenburg in 1995 , won the title in Athens in 1997 and second in Seville in 1999 .

With the relay, Diagana finished second at the European Championships in 1994 , and won bronze over 400 meter hurdles. At the European Championships in 2002 he was then European champion over the hurdles.

At the 2003 World Championships , the French 4 x 400 meter relay team with Leslie Djhone , Naman Keïta , Stéphane Diagana and Marc Raquil came in second behind the US relay. Because of the doping affair with the American Calvin Harrison , the French relay was subsequently declared world champion. Diagana ran the New York City Marathon 2005 in 3:07:40 h, just behind Laurent Jalabert , who needed 2:55:15 h.

He is an alumnus of ESCP Europe Business School.
