Kevin Young (born September 16, 1966 in Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American athlete.

Kevin Young made his international debut as a 400m hurdler at the Pan American Games in 1987, when he finished second. In 1988 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Seoul and was fourth behind his great role model Edwin Moses , who made his last big appearance in this race. At the 1991 World Championships , he was again fourth. This was followed by the two best years of his career: in 1992 he became Olympic champion at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in a world record time of 46.78 seconds. Until 2018 he was the only 400-meter hurdler to break the limit of 47 seconds. The IAAF honored him as World Athlete of the Year at the end of the season .

In 1993 Young was defeated for the first time after 25 victorious races, two weeks before the world championships, by Samuel Matete from Zambia . He was able to defeat the strong African at the world championships in Stuttgart and became world champion in 47.18 s. However, he was never able to return to the shape of 1992 and 1993.

With a height of 1.93 m, Young's competition weight was 82 kg.
