David "Dai" Greene (born April 11, 1986 in Llanelli , Wales ) is a Welsh athlete who specializes in the 400 meter hurdles and starts for Great Britain . He became world champion in 2011 and European champion in 2010.

Life

In 2005 he won the silver medal at the Junior European Championships in Kaunas . In contrast, he was eliminated at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg in the preliminary round. In 2007 he won the 400 meter hurdles title at the U23 European Championships in Debrecen .

From 2009 Greene established itself in the adult sector. First he won in the super league of the European Athletics Team Championship over 400 meter hurdles. At the World Championships in Berlin , he then finished seventh in 48.68 s. He was also a member of the British 4-by-400-meter relay , which won the silver medal. Greene himself was only used in the qualifying round and was replaced in the final by Michael Bingham .

At the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010 he was European champion over 400 meter hurdles with 48.12 seconds ahead of his compatriot Rhys Williams .

In 2011 Greene won the gold medal at the World Championships in the South Korean city of Daegu . His winning time was 48.26 s. He finished fourth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London

David Greene was trained by Malcolm Arnold until autumn 2015 and starts for the Swansea Harriers. Since autumn 2015 Greene has been looked after by Benke Blomqvist, who has also led the hurdle sprinter Susanna Kallur to best times. In his youth he played soccer for the Swansea City club .
