Rhys Williams (born February 27, 1984 in Cardiff ) is a Welsh athlete .

Rhys Williams was in the 400 meter hurdles European Youth Champion 2001, European Junior Champion 2003 and U23 European Champion 2005. At the Commonwealth Games 2006 he finished fourth in 49.09 s, in 2010 he won the bronze medal in 49.19 s.

At the European Championships in 2006 , he won the bronze medal in 49.12 s ahead of Naman Keïta (France) in 49.13 s, which he was able to overtake with an energetic sprint just before the finish line. With the British 4 x 400 meters relay he won silver behind the French relay with Keïta. Four years later, at the 2010 European Championships , he won the silver medal over 400 meter hurdles behind his compatriot David Greene in a personal best of 48.96 seconds. After bronze in 2006 and silver in 2010, Williams won the gold medal at the 2012 European Championships in 49.33 seconds.

At the 2014 Glasgow Grand Prix, his doping test was positive and he was banned for four months.

His father JJ Williams started as a sprinter at the Commonwealth Games in 1970 and was 30 times Welsh national player in rugby union .
