Periklís Iakovákis ( Greek Περικλής Ιακωβάκης , born March 24, 1979 in Patras ) is a Greek hurdler .

At the Junior European Championships in 1997 Iakovákis was second in the 400-meter hurdles and with the Greek 4-by-400-meter relay . In 1998 he became Junior World Champion over 400 meter hurdles in 49.82 seconds in Annecy . After he was eliminated at the 1999 World Championships and the 2000 Olympic Games , he reached the semi-finals at the 2001 World Championships . In Munich at the European Championships in 2002 , he finished fifth over the hurdles in 49.05 s. He also reached the finals with the relay and was sixth.

In the 2003 season he improved significantly. In the semifinals of the World Championships in Paris - Saint-Denis , he ran a new national record in 48.17 s. In the final he won bronze in 48.24 s behind Félix Sánchez (DOM) in 47.25 s and Joey Woody (USA) in 48.18 s. At the Olympic Games in 2004 and at the World Championships in 2005 , he was eliminated in the semifinals.

In May 2006, Iakovákis improved the Greek record in Osaka to 47.82 s. At the European Championships in Gothenburg he won the title in 48.46 s ahead of Marek Plawgo (POL) in 48.71 s. At the last Weltklasse Zürich meeting in the old Letzigrund in 2006, he won the hurdles in 47.92 seconds.

At the 2007 World Championships , he finished 6th in the finals in 49.25 s after he had qualified for the final in the semifinals with 48.44 s.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he reached the final, where with a time of 49.96 s he was only eighth and thus last.

Periklís Iakovákis was nine times in a row Greek champion in the 400-meter hurdles from 1998 to 2006. He has been trained by Maria Sotirakopoulou for years . At a height of 1.85 m, his competition weight is 76 kg. His brothers Thomás (* 1976) and Sotírios (* 1982) are also track and field athletes.
