Jehue Gordon (born December 15, 1991 in Port of Spain ) is an athlete from Trinidad and Tobago who specializes in the 400-meter hurdles .

Career

Gordon surprised the professional world when he finished fourth in the final of the 400 meter hurdles at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, improving the national record of Trinidad and Tobago to 48.26 seconds. The then 17-year-old, who was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Junior World Championships in Moncton last year, had improved his personal best by over three seconds within 14 months.

At the 2010 Junior World Athletics Championships in Moncton, Gordon lived up to his new role as favorite and secured the title in 49.30 seconds. The following year he suffered a setback when he missed the finals at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu by a hundredth of a second.

In the semifinals of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Gordon broke the 48-second mark for the first time and improved his national record to 47.96 seconds. In the final, he finished sixth in 49.08 seconds.

Gordon celebrated his greatest success to date at the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow. In the final, he increased his best performance to 47.69 seconds and thus secured the gold medal in front of the Olympic runner-up Michael Tinsley from the United States and the Serbian Vice European Champion Emir Bekrić .

At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 , he won the silver medal behind the South African Cornel Fredericks in 48.75 seconds . He was also used in the 4 x 400 meter relay in the lead. In the final, the Trinidad and Tobagos team finished third without him.

In 2015 he was a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay of Trinidad and Tobago, which won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto . However, he himself was only used in the semifinals and was replaced by Machel Cedenio in the final . At the World Athletics Championships in Beijing , Gordon surprisingly dropped out of the 400 meter hurdles in the preliminary run.

Jehue Gordon lives in Maraval, a suburb of Port of Spain, and is trained by Ian Hypolite and Edwin Skinner. He is studying sports management at the University of the West Indies at St. Augustine .
