Bershawn Jackson (born May 8, 1983 in Miami , Florida ) is a former American track and field athlete who became world champion in the 400-meter hurdles in 2005 .

Bershawn Jackson won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Kingston , Jamaica in 2002 and made his international breakthrough in the 2005 summer season. He was one of the favorites for the finals at the Helsinki World Championships in 2005 , despite his US rivals James Carter and Kerron Clement were rated stronger. He was able to fight Carter down in the final sprint, and Clement had started from the unfavorable first lane, so that he fell out as a serious competitor early in the final. Jackson won the gold medal with a personal best of 47.30 seconds.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he won the bronze medal behind Kerron Clement (47.98 s) and Angelo Taylor (47.25 s) with a time of 48.06 s .

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , he won the bronze medal behind Clement and Javier Culson from Puerto Rico .

At the end of the 2018 summer season, Jackson ended his sporting career and wanted to work as a youth coach.

Bershawn Jackson is 1.73 m tall and has a competition weight of 69 kg.
