Javier Culson
Javier Culson Rodríguez (born July 25, 1984 in Ponce ) is a Puerto Rican athlete. He became the first Puerto Rican to win a medal at World Athletics Championships in 2009.
2006 Culson Rodríguez won in 49.71 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles at the Ibero-American championship in his hometown of Ponce. In 2007 he won the bronze medal at the Universiade in Bangkok in 49.35 seconds . Shortly thereafter, he reached the semi-finals at the 2007 World Championships . In 2008 he improved his personal best to 48.87 seconds. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he was eliminated again in the semifinals.
In July 2009, Culson Rodríguez improved the national record to 48.29 seconds at the sports festival in Monaco. At the World Championships in Berlin , he reached the final with a third place in the semifinals behind the former world champions Kerron Clement and Félix Sánchez . In the final, Culson rose to 48.09 seconds and won the silver medal behind Kerron Clement in 47.91 seconds. At the 2011 World Cup , Culson was able to repeat his success and crossed the finish line after 48.44 seconds after David Greene . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he could not underscore his title ambitions with third place.
With a height of 1.98 meters, Culson has a competition weight of 79 kilograms.
