Angelo Taylor (born December 29, 1978 in Albany , Georgia ) is an American athlete . He is a three-time world champion and a three-time Olympic champion .

Career

Taylor's 400-meter hurdler career began in the late 1990s. At his first World Athletics Championships in Seville in 1999 , he won the gold medal with the Americans' 4 x 400 meter relay . He was able to repeat this success at the 2001 World Championships .

As the world's best hurdler of the year, he went to the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and won the gold medal in a memorable final with only three hundredths of a second advantage. He also won gold over 4 × 400 meters with the US relay . With this success, his career began to falter due to illnesses. He could no longer qualify for world championships, but started at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens to defend his title. In the semifinals he was eliminated in fourth place. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he was able to repeat his success from Sydney and won the gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles.

At the 2007 World Championships , he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run in 44.32 seconds. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he again won gold in the relay race for the USA. This was the fourth time that he was a member of the victorious 4 x 400 meter relay in the USA.

In 2012 he missed Olympic gold with the 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . As the final runner in the final sprint with Ramon Miller from the Bahamas, Taylor was left behind and had to be content with silver.

In 2005 it hit the headlines in a non-sporting way. In a juvenile sexual abuse trial, he pleaded guilty to seducing two 15-year-old girls and was sentenced to three years probation in early 2006 .
