Christopher Deon "Chris" Brown (born October 15, 1978 on Eleuthera ) is a Bahamian sprinter .

Life

Brown is a 400-meter runner and was already a participant in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Games in Athens , but, like the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton and the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis, never made it through the heats or the semifinals out. However, he won gold with the Bahamian relay in 2001 (after the American Antonio Pettigrew was convicted of doping) and in 2003 bronze at the World Championships. It was not until the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 that he reached the final and was fourth in 44.48 s. With the 4 x 400 meter relay in the Bahamas, he won the silver medal behind the USA and ahead of Jamaica with a courageous final sprint as the final runner . The season ran a national record with 2: 57.32 minutes.

In 2007 he won gold at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in both the individual and the relay competition. At the World Championships in Osaka , he was fourth and runner-up world champion with the relay in the individual race. On June 6, 2008 he ran in Oslo with 44.40 s personal best. He had previously won bronze over 400 meters at the 2008 World Indoor Championships in Valencia . In the same year he succeeded with the 400-meter relay silver at the Olympic Games in Beijing .

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , he finished fifth in the 400-meter run. The following year he won the individual title at the World Indoor Championships in Doha , but he could not finish the final with the relay. In 2011 he failed in the semi-finals of the World Championships in Daegu .

The indoor world championships in 2012 in Istanbul brought another bronze medal over 400 meters. Brown celebrated his most significant success at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . After finishing fourth again over 400 meters, he set a new national record together with Demetrius Pinder , Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller with the Bahamian relay in 2: 56.72 minutes. The quartet surprisingly secured the gold medal in front of the favored US team.

With a height of 1.78 m, he has a competition weight of 68 kg.
