Sunder L. Nix (born December 2, 1961 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is a retired American athlete and Olympic champion .

As the world best of the year in the 400-meter run in 1982, Sunder Nix set his personal best with 44.68 s and improved his previous best by almost a second. In 1983 he was only just able to qualify for the final of the first world championships. In the final, he was still far behind at the start of the home stretch, but was still able to hit and won the bronze medal in 45.24 s. In the final of the 4 x 400 meter relay , Sunder Nix was the second runner to Willie Smith, who then fell, however, so that the relay was only sixth.

At the 1984 Olympic Games , Nix finished fifth in 44.75 s, four hundredths of a second behind to third. As the starting runner of the US season, Nix was slightly behind in the final, but Ray Armstead and Alonzo Babers ran out a secure lead, which Antonio McKay was then able to confidently run to victory.
