Robert Lindsay ( Robert Alexander Lindsay ; born April 18, 1890 in Battersea , London , † October 21, 1958 ) was a British sprinter who was successful in the 400-meter run in the early 1920s .

Lindsay was one of many whose careers were spoiled by the war. When the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp first gave him the opportunity to take part in international competitions, he was already thirty years old. He started both in the individual competitions over 400 meters, where he reached the quarter-finals, as well as in the 4 x 400 meter relay , which was made up of Cecil Griffiths , Lindsay, John Ainsworth-Davis and Guy Butler and in 3 : 22.2 min gold in front of South Africa (silver in 3: 24.2 min) and France (bronze in 3: 24.8 min).

He won his first and only AAA championship over 440 yards in 1921 (50.4 s) after Guy Butler (1919) and the South African Bevil Rudd (1920) had been successful in previous years . In the years from 1914 to 1918, no championships were held due to the war.
