Edward Ferdinand Jacob Lindberg (born November 9, 1886 in Cherokee , Iowa , † February 16, 1978 in Highland Park , Illinois ) was an American athlete and Olympic champion .

He grew up in his native Cherikee, the son of a family who immigrated from Sweden . In 1909 and 1911 he won the AAU championships over 440 yards each , which qualified him for participation in the upcoming Olympiad.

At the 5th Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run , behind the American Charles Reidpath (gold) and the German Hanns Braun (silver) as well as the team gold medal in the 4-by-400-meter Relay race , together with his teammates Mel Sheppard , Ted Meredith and Charles Reidpath, in front of the teams from France (silver) and Great Britain (bronze). At the same time, the team set a new world record with a time of 3: 16.6 minutes.
