Charles Asati (born March 3, 1946 in Kisii ) is a former Kenyan sprinter and Olympic champion .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Asati competed in three disciplines. In the 100-meter run he was eliminated with 10.63 s in the run, over 200 meters he survived the run in 20.66 s, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the 4 x 400 meter relay , the Kenyan team with Asati, Munyoro Nyamau , Naftali Bon and Daniel Rudisha surprisingly won silver in 2: 59.64 minutes behind the relay from the United States, whose world record of 2: 56.16 min was not undercut until 1992.

In 1970 Asati won the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in the 400-meter run in 45.01 s and took bronze in the 200 meters in 20.74 s. The relay with the line-up Nyamau, Julius Sang , Robert Ouko and Asati won in 3: 03.63 minutes.

The American Vince Matthews won the 400-meter run at the 1972 Olympic Games in front of his compatriot Wayne Collett and Julius Sang. Charles Asati finished fourth in 45.13 s. At the awards ceremony, Matthews and Collett behaved in such a way that the United States team management excluded them from the season. Since John Smith was injured over 400 meters in the final, the highly popular US relay had failed. In the final, the Kenyan quartet was the only one under three minutes with 2: 59.83 minutes and won gold in the line-up of Asati, Nyamau, Ouko and Sang.

At the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, Asati was able to repeat his one-two victory in 1970. He won the 400-meter run in 46.04 s, and the relay won in 3: 04.43 min with Asati, Francis Musyoki , William Koskei and Sang.
