Gil Roberts
Gil Roberts (born March 15, 1989 in Oklahoma City ) is an American sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .
In 2009 he became US runner-up and was eliminated in the preliminary stages of the World Athletics Championships in Berlin .
In 2012 he became US indoor champion and won gold in the 4-by-400-meter relay with the US team at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul .
At the 2016 Olympic Games , he won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay for the USA with Arman Hall , Tony McQuay and LaShawn Merritt with a time of 2: 57.30 minutes.
Gil Roberts graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in mass communications .
After he was suspended by the USADA in May 2017 because of the detection of probenecid in a doping sample , he explained this by accidentally ingesting the substance through intense kissing, and was thus able to avoid a ban for the time being. WADA lodged a protest against the acquittal and the hearing before the International Court of Justice for Sports (CAS) was scheduled for January 15, 2018. In this, the WADA objection was rejected because Roberts had fulfilled his duty to state the origin of the prohibited substance and the witness statements were convincing and free of contradictions. The small amount of probenecid found would also have had no masking effect and all relevant aspects of the case indicated an unintentional ingestion of the agent.
