The United Kingdom (Great Britain and Northern Ireland) participated in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp with a delegation of 233 athletes (217 men and 16 women) in 83 competitions in 20 sports. Then there was the author Theodore Andrea Cook , who took part in the Olympic art competitions and won the silver medal. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the athlete and later politician and Nobel Peace Prize winner Philip Noel-Baker .
