Timothy J. Carroll (born July 8, 1888 in Cork , Ireland ; † date and location unknown) was an Irish athlete who competed in the high and triple jump for the United Kingdom until 1921 .

Timothy Carroll, a full-time police officer, was one of the outstanding Irish athletes who competed for the Polytechnic Harriers London. In 1912 he was the first Irish champion in high jump. For the United Kingdom he started at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 . Here he competed in both high and triple jump. In the high jump competition , he was able to qualify for the final, but did not get beyond ninth place there. He was 19 in the triple jump .

In 1913 Carroll was Irish champion in the triple jump, in the high jump he was able to defend his title. In the same year he jumped the Irish record of 1,956 m (6 ft 5 in), which was not broken until 1954. In 1914 he was the Irish high jump champion for the third time in a row. With the outbreak of World War I , no more championships were held until 1918. It was not until 1919 that Carroll was able to celebrate again. This year he was Irish high jump champion for the fourth time, and he also won the British amateur championships. In 1920 he was able to defend his Irish championship again.

At the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp , Belgium , this time Carroll only competed in the high jump, again for the United Kingdom. He was able to qualify for the final and finished ninth, as in 1912. As a result, he succeeded in 1921, 1922 and 1923 three more title defenses at the Irish Championships in high jump.
