Francis Augustus Richards (born August 9, 1873 , † after 1920) was a British sailor .
successes
Francis Richards took part in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp with the 18-foot dinghy Brat as their skipper, whose crew also included Thomas Hedberg . As the only boat in its class to take part in the competition, the Brat was only able to reach the destination during the races. However, since the finish was not reached in the first race and the Brat did not start in any other races, the award of the gold medal was considered controversial, because Richards and Hedberg were not mentioned in the official report of the games. However, both the world association and the IOC lead Richards and Hedberg as Olympic champions .
