1924 Winter Olympics / Participant (Great Britain)
The United Kingdom took part in the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix in part with a delegation of 34 athletes in five sports. The British NOK had registered 47 athletes for the games, 34 of whom were participating in competitions. An athlete took part in the Olympic Games for the second time:
- Ethel Muckelt (1920 figure skating)
Results: Great Britain sent the second largest team to Chamonix alongside France and was considered the strongest non-Scandinavian nation. Skip Thomas Murray's curlers won the only gold medal. However, the curlers won the Olympic gold medal 82 years later, during the Turin Winter Games in 2006 . Until then, curling was officially only considered a demonstration competition . The British also proved to be a strong nation in bobsleigh . The crew of the Bobs Great Britain II with pilot Ralph Broome finished in silver. The second British bob still finished fifth. In figure skating it was Ethel Muckelt who won the third medal for her country with bronze. Together with John Page , she also finished fourth in pair skating. The ice hockey team around captain Colin Carruthers also won bronze in the Chamonix tournament and is the best European team.
