POLE

Poland took part in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix with a delegation of 4 athletes in 2 sports. The Polish NOK had registered 7 athletes for the games, of which 4 took part in competitions. The members of the military patrol do not count as official Olympic participants.

Result : The most successful participant of the Polish team was the speed skater Leon Jucewicz , who landed in the individual competitions in places between 14 and 17 and was eighth in the all-around competition. After the Pezdymirski figure skating couple canceled, Jucewicz was the only Pole on the Olympic ice oval. Sergeant Szczepan Witkowski was the only one on the military patrol who also started with the cross-country skiing specialists and finished 21st over 50 km. That this was the last place in no way diminished the performance of the 27-year-old. When you consider that he had 80 km in his legs in just two days and the weather conditions were anything but good. Numerous runners had to give up or did not even start. His skiing colleagues Franciszek Bujak and Andrzej Krzeptowski also impressed with only moderate performances on the cross-country ski trail and on the natural hill and all of them finished behind.
