Franciszek Bujak (born November 25, 1896 in Zakopane , † September 11, 1975 there ) was a Polish Nordic skier. He was twice Polish champion in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined .

Career

After finishing his military service in 1920, Bujak took part in the first Nordic Ski Championships in Poland in Zakopane . By winning the 18 km cross-country skiing, Bujak became the winner of the first Polish championship ski title in the history of Polish skiing. In addition, he won the combined competition and was second behind Leszek Pawłowski in the special jump .

Bujak was a participant in the 1924 Winter Olympics , where he was only rated in cross-country skiing and achieved 27th place over 18 kilometers. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1925 in Janské Lázně , he started only in cross-country skiing and finished in 38th place. He achieved his best world championship result in 1927 in Cortina d'Ampezzo over 50 km by reaching fourteenth place.

After his active career, Bujak remained connected to skiing. Among other things, he was vice president of his club between 1935 and 1938 and later a member of the organizing committee of the World Championships in 1939 and 1962 .

Personal

Franciszek is the brother of the 1928 Olympian Józef and father of the seven-time Polish Alpine champion Anna . After his death, Bujak was buried in the New Cemetery in Zakopane .
