Jaszczurówka (Zakopane)

The Jaszczurówka is a district of the Polish city ​​of Zakopane in the Western Tatras in the powiat Tatrzański in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .

location

The district is located on the Panoramaweg Oswald-Balzer-Weg at an altitude of 886 meters above sea level directly on the border with the Tatra National Park at the foot of the Dolina Olczyska valley .

history

The place was laid out as a spa in the 19th century, as thermal springs occur in the area that were used from 1839. The thermal waters were examined in 1861 and a spa was established in 1861–62, as well as other spas in 1891. Henryk Sienkiewicz was one of the spa guests . Today the area of ​​the spas is located in the area of ​​the Tatra National Park and is no longer used. In 1904 the Chapel of the Heart of Jesus was built in the Zakopane style by Stanisław Witkiewicz .

etymology

The name can be translated as "lizard place", whereby it goes back to the fire salamanders that appear here .

A hiking trail into the Western Tatras begins in the municipality .
