The glacial formed by glacial valley Dolina Olczyska is a valley in the Polish West Tatra in the Lesser Poland .
geography
The valley is around 4 km long and surrounded by mountains over 1704 m high. a. the massif of the Kopa Magury . It has an area of approx. 4.5 km².
The valley falls from the southwest to the northeast from about 1704 meters to 900 meters. The mountain river Olczyski Potok flows through it. The valley opens in Vortatragraben in the area of Zakopane district Jaszczurówka .
The water of Sucha Woda Gąsienicowa from the Dolina Gąsienicowa valley flows underground into the valley and comes back to the surface in the source of the Olczyski Potok.
etymology
The name can be translated as "Valley of the Olcza". The name comes from the Zakopan district of Olcza .
Flora and fauna
The valley lies above and below the tree line and is covered with mountain pines in the upper area and coniferous forest in the lower area. The valley is a retreat for numerous mammals and bird species.
climate
There is a high mountain climate in the valley.
Alpine farming
Before the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the valley was used for alpine farming. After that, the owners of the alpine pastures were expropriated or forced to sell. Former alpine huts are still in the valley.
tourism
Numerous hiking trails lead through the valley from the surrounding mountain passes and peaks.
