Alpine farming
Before the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the valley had been used for alpine farming since the 17th century. However, it has been visited by shepherds and robbers before. In 1650/1651, the rebel Aleksander Kostka-Napierski is said to have recruited soldiers from the shepherds on the mountain pasture. The alpine pasture is documented in 1653, in which the alpine pasture is called Hala Stawów (German: Seenalm or Valley of the Lakes ). Later the name Dolina Siedmiu Stawów (German: Valley of the Seven Lakes or Siebenseental ) appeared. After the establishment of the national park, the owners of the alpine pastures were expropriated or forced to sell.
