The Dolina Czarna Gąsienicowa , formed by glaciers in the Ice Age, is a side valley of the Dolina Suchej Wody Gąsienicowej valley , specifically its upper course as Dolina Gąsienicowa , in the Polish High Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .
geography
The valley is around 6.5 km long and surrounded by mountains over 2200 m high. a. Lower Seealm Tower ( Zawratowa Turnia ), Northern Grenade Point ( Skrajny Granat ), Organ Pipes ( Wierch pod Fajki ), Yellow Mountain ( Żółta Turnia ), Small Polish Chapel ( Mały Kościelec ) and Polish Chapel ( Kościelec ).
The valley falls from east to west from about 2200 meters to 1424 meters. It is traversed by the Seealmer Schwarzbach ( Czarny Potok Gąsienicowy ), which flows into the Seealmer Trockenbach ( Sucha Woda Gąsienicowa ). The creek flows partly underground. In the upper area there is the hanging valley Dolina Kozia and the Karkessel Kapellenkessel ( Kościelcowy Kocioł ), Kocioł Czarnego Stawu Gąsienicowego and Kocioł Zmarzłego Stawu Gąsienicowego . In the last two there are the Polish Black Lake ( Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy ) and the Polish Frozen Lake ( Zmarzły Staw Gąsienicowy ). In the lower area is the Seealmwald ( Las Gąsienicowy ).
etymology
The Polish name can be translated as "Black Gąsienica Valley". The Gąsienic were an important family from Zakopane in the Podhale region at the foot of the High Tatras, who owned the valley, especially the Hala Gąsienicowa mountain pasture . The term "black" comes from the black of the granite rocks that surround the valley.
Flora and fauna
The valley lies below and above the tree line. It is a retreat for deer, bears, lynx, wolves and golden eagles.

There is a high mountain climate in the valley.
Alpine farming
Before the Tatra National Park was established in 1954, the valley had been used for alpine farming since the 17th century. After that, the owners of the alpine pastures were expropriated or forced to sell.

- ▬ A green marked hiking trail leads from the mountain Wierchporoniec to the mountain hut Schronisko PTTK Murowaniec .
- ▬ A yellow marked hiking trail leads from the Schronisko PTTK Murowaniec mountain hutto the Kreuzsattel ( Krzyżne ).
- ▬ A black-marked hiking trail from the Black Polish Lake ( Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy ) via the Small Polish Chapel ( Mały Kościelec ) and the Kerbsattel mountain passto the Polish Chapel .
- ▬ A yellow-marked hiking trail from the Black Polish Lake to the Northern Granatenspitze ( Skrajny Granat ).
- ▬ A yellow marked hiking trail from the Black Polish Lake to the Gemsenscharte ( Kozia Przełęcz ).
- ▬ A green marked hiking trail from the Polish Frozen Lake to the southern Granatenspitze ( Zadni Granat ).
- ▬ A black marked hiking trail branches off from the ▬ green marked hiking trail to the Schwarzwandscharte ( Przełączka nad Dolinką Buczynową ).
Above the valley there is the Orla Perć high trail , which can be reached on the marked hiking trails from the valley.
The mountain hut Schronisko PTTK Murowaniec is located on the Hala Gąsienicowa mountain pasture , which is located at the point where the valley meets the Seealm valley .
