The glacially formed by glaciers hanging valley Kocioł Kasprowy even Kocioł Gąsienicowy called, is a Karkessel southwest of the valley Dolina Zielona Gąsienicowa , specifically its junction Dolina Sucha Stawiańska , which in turn is a tributary of the valley Dolina Suchej Vody gąsienicowej and in the Polish Tatras and West Tatras in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . It lies below the peaks of Uhrocie Kasprowe , Kasprowy Wierch and Beskid, and the Sucha Przełęcz mountain pass .

geography

The valley is around 1 km long and surrounded by mountains over 2000 meters high, especially the Kasprowy Wierch massif . The Dolina Sucha Stawiańska lies under the basin . In the valley runs the border between the High Tatras in the east and the Western Tatras in the west. A small unnamed stream flows out of the valley.

etymology

The name is derived from the mountain Kasprowy Wierch and can be translated as Kasprowy Kessel or Kessel des Kasprowy . The alternative name Kocioł Gąsienicowy is derived from the valley Dolina Gąsienicowa and can be translated as Gąsienicowa Kessel or Kessel der Gąsienicowa .

Flora and fauna

The valley lies below and above the tree line. It is overgrown with grass. The valley is a refuge for chamois and marmots.

There is a high mountain climate in the valley.

Alpine farming

The valley has been used for alpine farming since the 17th century. It belonged to the Hala Gąsienicowa mountain pasture . After the establishment of the Tatra National Park in 1954, the former owners were expropriated or forced to sell.

tourism

Through the valley of the 8.5 km long ski slope leads Gąsienicowa from Kasprowy Wierch down to the Zakopane area Kuźnice and a chair lift from the valley floor to Kasprowy Wierch, the chairlift Hala Gąsienicowa .
