France participated in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix with a delegation of 40 athletes in 6 sports.

Balance sheet

France sent the largest Olympic team to Chamonix as hosts. In terms of performance, a French medal was expected in ice hockey. The bronze medal of the young figure skating couple Andrée Joly and Pierre Brunet is all the more gratifying . The curlers and the military patrol also won bronze, which, however, in view of the small number of participants in the two disciplines should not be regarded as a “big” surprise. The 33-year-old military patrol captain Camille Mandrillon was the spokesman for the Olympic oath . From today's perspective an absurdity. The 30 km military patrol run subsequently became a demonstration sport in 1926degraded. Thus, an athlete from a non-Olympic discipline took the athletes' oath. As already mentioned, the ice hockey players were the greatest hope for a medal. After all, France became vice European champion in 1923 . However, the team around captain Alfred de Rauch disappointed and eliminated in the preliminary round. The ice hockey player Léonhard Quaglia , who also competed in speed skating and even finished sixth in the all-around competition, was the undisputed superstar in the entire French Olympic team.

With three bronze medals won the French team finished 9th in the medal count .
