France took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City with a delegation of 200 athletes (169 men and 31 women) in 107 competitions in 16 sports. The most successful athlete was the cyclist Pierre Trentin , he won three medals, including two golds. His tandem partner Daniel Morelon also won two gold medals. With a total of 15 medal successes, the nation took sixth place in the medal table. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the swimmer Kiki Caron .
