France took part inthe 2012 Olympic Games in London . It was the 26th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Comité National Olympique et Sportif Français nominated 332 athletes in 24 sports.

The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the sword fencer Laura Flessel-Colovic .

The obstacle runner Nour-Eddine Gezzar had a positive doping result ( EPO ) at the national championships on June 17, 2012 and was then suspended. At the end of August 2012, the international sports court rejected his appeal against a ten-year ban. The 5000 m runner Hassan Hirt was also tested positive for EPO and banned for two years.
