Julien Bahain (born April 20, 1986 in Angers , France ) is a French - Canadian rower .

Career

Julien Bahain started rowing in France in 1999. In 2003, at the age of 17, he was able to compete in the world championships for juniors in quadruples and win a bronze medal.

In 2005, in the first year of the senior competition class, Bahain started straight away at the Rowing World Cup , he reached the D-final in the open single for 19th to 24th place. However, in the same year he moved up to the French double foursome at the World Championships took fifth place in the finals in Gifu . A year later Bahain also rowed in the quadruple sculls at the 2006 World Championships on Dorney Lake , where the French team only reached 10th place. In the pre-Olympic year 2007, at the World Championships in Munich , the form was then right again and Bahain's team managed to win the silver medal. At the Summer Olympics in Beijing, Bahain won bronze in a double scull, together with rowers Jonathan Coeffic , Pierre-Jean Peltier and Cédric Berrest . Just a few weeks after the Olympic Games, Bahain also started at the 2008 European Championships with Julien Desprès in double sculls , where he won his first international title with the European Championship.

In the Olympic cycle in London, Bahain initially rowed mainly in double sculls with Cédric Berrest. At the 2009 World Championships , the duo won the silver medal behind the German duo with Eric Knittel and Stephan Krüger , at the 2010 European Championships in Portugal they also won the gold medal and another bronze medal at the World Championships in New Zealand in the same year. Bahain and Berrest were also able to defend the latter at the 2011 World Championships . The Olympic season then turned out to be disappointing. After the results of the Rowing World Cup with three finals were still correct, the duo dropped out of the 2012 Summer Olympics in the semifinals and ultimately only finished 10th overall, which was disappointing for Bahain. When participating in the European Championships in 2012 a few weeks later in the quadruple sculls, the 11th overall place was also unsuccessful.

Bahain, who has a Canadian mother and a French father, moved to Canada after the disappointing London Games. He quickly made contact with the Canadian national rowing team and started for Canada at the World Championships in Amsterdam in 2014 . In one of the men he reached 10th place overall. In the 2015 season he placed 11th with the Canadian quadruple at the World Championships on Lac d'Aiguebelette in France , and he also won two gold medals in the quadruple and eighth at the Pan American Games in Toronto. At the 2016 Olympic Regatta , the Canadian quadruple finished eighth.

Bahain started in France for the clubs Angers Nautique Aviron and Aviron Toulousain and in Canada for Laval Aviron . At a height of 1.90 m, his competition weight is around 91 kg.
