Eric Knittel

Eric Knittel (born April 20, 1983 in Berlin ) is a German rower . His greatest success so far is winning gold at the 2009 World Championships in double sculls.

Knittel was a member of the national team for the first time in 2003, at the U23 World Championships he won bronze in the lightweight quadruple sculls. In 2004 Knittel became German champion in the lightweight single and qualified in this boat class for the U23 world championships. There he became vice world champion.

In 2005, Knittel won the CRASH-B World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston , the title at the world championships on the rowing ergometer , in the lightweight men category. For the season he switched to the open weight class and became U23 runner-up in the double scull with Falko Nolte . In the following two years Knittel was used in different boat classes at the Rowing World Cup and was a substitute rower at the Rowing World Championships in Eton and Munich . At the European Rowing Championships in 2007 he won bronze in a double scull with Tim Bartels .

After a back injury at the end of 2007, Knittel failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, but made it to the top of the national league in 2009 with third place at the German Small Boat Championships. Together with the runner-up Stephan Krüger he formed the German double scull for the World Championships in Poznan , where the team won the gold medal after a strong final spurt.

Due to an injury, the double scull was only able to start again at the 2010 European Rowing Championships . Knittel and Krüger took fourth place here and also rowed for Germany at the World Championships in Lake Karapiro .

At the 2012 Olympic Games he was ninth in a double scull with Stephan Krüger. He ended his international career in spring 2014.

Knittel starts for the Berlin rowing club .
